- A-class abattoirs will be audited by certified ISO standard auditors appointed by the Meat Board to conduct such audits on a bi-annual basis against market compliance requirements. Carcass classification standards at these abattoirs are audited between 4 and 6 times annually.
- B-class abattoirs will be audited by auditors appointed by the Meat Board to conduct such audits on an annual basis. Carcass classification standards at these abattoirs are audited between 4 and 6 times annually.
- C-class abattoirs will be inspected prior to initial registration. Annual levy inspections will be conducted at these abattoirs by the Law Enforcement Division of the Meat Board. The Meat Standards Division of the Meat Board will conduct spot inspections when deemed necessary for maintenance of registration.
Any findings during audits will be communicated with the abattoir operator. Major findings will be reported to relevant institutions or bodies, and could lead to the suspension of registration until such time as the non-conformances have been corrected in an acceptable manner.
